What Is Biobloc?
Biobloc is a removable orthodontic device designed to expand the dental arches and correct severe jaw constrictions. It is most effective in younger patients with narrow upper arches or significant overjet. The Biobloc Stage 1 (BB1) is the most commonly used appliance. It gradually widens the upper jaw using a small expansion screw, helping to create proper space for teeth alignment and tongue posture.
How It Works
Biobloc Stage 1 (BB1) appliance includes an expansion screw that gently widens the upper jaw. Patients are instructed to turn the screw one quarter of a full turn every 24 hours, as directed by the doctor at our affiliated clinic. The appliance should be worn throughout the day and night, except during meals or cleaning.
Regular checkups every 2 to 4 weeks allow the doctor to monitor progress and adjust the device as needed. The active expansion phase usually lasts 4 to 6 months, depending on the individual’s progress.
Biobloc Procedure
1. Consultation and assessment will be conducted.
2. Dental impressions or scans will be taken for appliance fabrication.
3. The Biobloc appliance will be fitted and checked for comfort.
4. Post-care instructions and for daily screw activation will be provided.
5. After expansion is achieved, the active phase will be completed and the maintenance phase will begin.
